Joe Saumarez Smith has worked in the online gambling industry since 1999. His management consultancy, Sports Gaming, has advised many of the leading European, Asian and north American gaming companies on strategy, finance, marketing and technology. Joe is a well known investor in gaming businesses and has successfully sold several businesses, including BetAsia and Vegas Insider. Joe has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He has been approved as a key individual by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, is an approved individual of the Alcohol and Gambling Commission of Ontario and has a Personal Management Licence from the UK Gambling Commission. He is a non executive director of the British Horseracing Authority.
Dan Smyth has worked in the online gambling industry since 2003. He studied software engineering at the University of Durham before travelling the world as a professional poker player and web developer. In 2005 he founded Crown Bingo and since 2008 has run Newcastle Marketing Services, one of the leading providers of support services to the online gambling industry. Dan is an investor in several online businesses, including one of the largest online bingo operators in Europe. He has been approved as a key individual by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission. Dan co-founded Bede Gaming in 2012.
Michael joined Cashcade Ltd in 2000 as one of the first employees of the company that launched Foxybingo. He has founded several pioneering online gaming businesses, including launching the first UK online bingo site in 2003. After successful forays into online poker, financial spread betting, online casino and mobile gambling Michael joined Partygaming PLC in 2009 shortly after their acquisition of Cashcade. Michael was appointed Commercial Director of Bingo in 2011 and gained extensive experience of International Gaming markets. Michael left Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment PLC in 2012 to co-found Bede Gaming. Michael has a degree in Law and French Law from the University of Birmingham and a Diplome d’etudes juridiques francaises from the Universite de Limoges.
Alex Butcher has been working in the online gambling software space since 2009. After obtaining a First Class Honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Durham, he started his career working on B2B integrations software, moving into financial services, developing derivatives trading platform for a tier 1 investment bank. In 2009 he started work on what became Bede’s first ever bingo product, before going on to architect Bede’s flexible gaming platform. At Bede, Alex oversees the architectural direction of the Bede Gaming Platform, and works to continually improve the software delivery process.
Beth Crosier was appointed Finance Director of Bede Gaming in July 2016, joining the Board on the same date. Beth joins Bede from The Sage Group plc where most recently she served as CFO of the European region. Prior to that, she held a number of senior finance positions at Sage with responsibility for strategic and financial planning, M&A support and investor relations. Beth is a Chartered Accountant having trained at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Newcastle upon Tyne and San Jose, California.
Alistair’s role combines managing the existing client base, supporting Michael with key commercial opportunities, and providing strategic guidance on product development. Alistair ran the Gaming business of Sportingbet between 2008 and 2013 before joining Game Account Network as Corporate Development Director, where he led their market entry into the US social and real money gaming spaces, together with taking the business public.
Paul Dinning was appointed Chief Operating Officer in August 2016, joining the Executive Committee. Paul joins Bede from Sage UK where most recently he served as Development Director for all the Payments businesses within the Sage UK portfolio. Prior to that he had a number of senior technology positions within a Tier 1 investment bank based in New Jersey and Connecticut with a focus on efficient use of balance sheet assets. Paul has spent the last 15 years living in Brooklyn NY recently relocating back to Newcastle to take up a leadership role in Sage UK’s first financial services regulated business.
